Singing Creek Farm is a beautiful 113 acre farm located just outside of Mount Union in Huntingdon County. About 50 acres is forest backing up to 5,000 acres of game land. The remaining acreage is fields and meadows filled with wildlife including an abundant diversity of insects which are also supported by mountain springs, a year round stream and 3 acre pond. A diverse array of flowering plants on the farm supports our honey bee colonies and provides plentiful nectar, necessary for for the production of honey. In addition to honey we produce a large variety of culinary herbs and edible flowers in a 40' by 10' greenhouse. These are sold mainly in 4" and 6" pots. We believe the best way to enjoy the flavor of culinary herbs is harvest leaves fresh from the plants. Recently we have added Japanese quail to farm fauna and will soon be producing quail eggs.
We believe in and employ sustainable farming practices. Although we are not certified organic, we use organic seed when possible. All herbs are planted in organically certified soil purchased from Ohio Earth Food. Fertilizer is also certified organic and purchased from OEF. As retired entomologists from PSU we strongly believe in and employ Integrated Pest Management practices. Pests in the greenhouse are controlled by biocontrols like lady bugs (which love to eat aphids!). If necessary we may use organically approved insecticidal soap to control insect pests. We invite you to enjoy the "fruits" of our farm.
